Diablo IV: New Quarterly Update Details Seasonal Content, Post-Launch Plans, Cosmetics, And More

Blizzard has released Diablo IV’s third quarterly update for 2022. Unlike the last one, which focused on the Necromancer class, today’s is all about seasonal content and post-launch plans for the team.

The studio says it’s aware fans have loved Seasons in Diablo II: Resurrected and Diablo III and have been asking for even more seasonal support. Diablo IV will feature seasons, and the first will be available soon after launch. Additionally, Blizzard will have a dedicated Seasons Team that will bring players up to four Seasons per year, each with major new features, questlines, enemies, legendary items, and more.

“Diablo IV seasons are modeled after those of Diablo III,” the blog post says. “When a new season begins, all characters from the previous season are moved to the Eternal Realm, where you can continue playing, leveling up, and collecting loot. To play in the new season, you will create a new character and experience seasonal features and content while progressing alongside other players.

“This, along with the Paragon Point cap in Diablo IV, ensures that your effort and skill – measured by both Dexterity and Theory – determines your character’s power. It also allows players who missed the last season to participate in. The design of this season requires that all sources of power for the character come from the game, so you won’t be able to pay for power in Diablo IV.”

Let’s break down each section of the blog:

New content

Blizzard says that each new season of Diablo IV will be released with “a new gameplay feature and a new questline that introduces new challenges, mysteries, and possibilities to the next-level experience.” Each series of quests will reveal more of the world of Sanctuary and your character’s place in it. These questlines are also where Blizzard has the opportunity to introduce new characters or revisit old ones.

Refresh meta

Blizzard says it will “always assess the state of the game to regularly revitalize old playgrounds.” An example of this is the balance between classes, builds, and powers.

“Diablo is a game about creating exciting, overpowered builds, and while we don’t want to balance the fun of the experience, we don’t want to create situations where imprecise tuning overwhelms creativity,” it reads. on the blog. “We’ll also be constantly adding new Legendary and Unique items, Paragon Boards and Glyphs, and more, which will continually refresh the meta and create new building opportunities.”

Improve the game

The team says they’ll identify quality-of-life features and tweak work that can be done to improve the overall game experience, and they’re inviting the community to vote on their priority. Blizzard says the team can’t always address issues immediately, but “you can be assured we’ll be active in improving the quality of the game experience for years to come.”

Live Events

New live events will pop up with each season of Diablo IV. An example of an event like this could be warning of an impending drowned invasion, and that can last for an entire weekend. Or, perhaps a strange peddler will arrive among the rocks of the dry steppes. Blizzard says these live events “provide gateways to new adventures and unique rewards.”

Season trip

“Alongside our main season releases, we see the return of the Season Journey,” reads the blog post. “Players are driven to explore Sanctuary anew, earning limited-time rewards with each Season Journey chapter completed. Completing the Season Journey is quite the feat, with the final stage requiring the character to overcome an extremely difficult encounter with a particularly deadly . enemy.

“With future Seasonal Voyages, we regularly add higher level difficulty challenges for players, proving their worth and earning unique cosmetic rewards. Like Diablo III, Seasonal Voyage is free for all players. Complete Voyage Objectives season also allows progression to the Season Pass, a Battle Pass-like progression system that advances the Season Journey, allowing players to earn even more rewards just for playing.cosmetics and premium currency only).

Season pass

Blizzard says the game’s Season Passes will recognize player dedication, with greater rewards unlocking as you play more throughout a given season. There will be a single reward track with the free tiers which are unlocked only for playing the game and leveling up, and there will be Premium Tiers, which offer no power or in-game advantage over other players.

“The pass’ free tiers will provide gameplay enhancements to all players – items that speed up and streamline the leveling path for new seasonal characters,” the blog post reads. “In contract, Premium tier rewards are aesthetically focused, offering tremendous value in the form of cosmetics and premium currency. Many rewards embody the theme of the season, helping players show off their participation in this season. season.”

Here’s what Blizzard has to say about the Season Pass:

  • The Season Pass has free tiers and premium tiers: Throughout the pass, players can earn a variety of rewards for free, just by playing. At any time during the season, players can purchase the Premium Pass to unlock the ability to earn Premium reward tiers containing seasonally themed cosmetics and premium currency.
  • The Season Pass rewards cosmetics: Like the shop, these do not affect gameplay. Additionally, certain types of cosmetics are exclusive to the Season Pass.
  • The Season Pass awards a premium currency: Players can spend this currency for beauty products offered in store.
  • Season Pass Rewards free Season Bonuses: Boosts accelerate player progress for the duration of the season. For example, a Season Boost can speed up XP earned to speed up leveling multiple characters in a season. Because they affect gameplay, Season Boosts are free rewards for all players. We want to be clear that players cannot unlock Season Boosts faster through purchases – there is no way to unlock more boosts, or boosts at a faster rate, by spending money.
  • Players can buy tiers, but they won’t speed up getting season bonuses: Players cannot upgrade Season Boosts simply by purchasing Tiers, as they will also need to earn Tier Milestones to apply them. All other tier rewards can be unlocked instantly by purchasing tiers. In other words, there’s no way to shorten getting Season Boosts by buying Tiers; they must be earned.
  • The Season Journey speeds up Season Pass progression: While any playstyle can progress through the Season Pass, min-maxers can focus on Season Journey objectives to advance faster.

The shop

Blizzard writes in the blog post that its primary design goal for the store was to make sure buying items felt good, before, during, and after purchase. He also wants purchases to feel like what players want to make rather than what players need to make. The team wants players to know exactly what they’re getting before they choose to buy, with no nasty surprises.

“The cosmetics in the shop build on the base of a wide variety of weapon and armor transmogs that players will find in-game,” the blog post reads. “It’s also important to us that the store is rooted in the world of Diablo, so our cosmetics are holistic fantasies, the individual components of which can be mixed and matched with in-game armor transmogs for customization options. infinite.”

Read more about what Blizzard has to say about The Shop:

  • The shop sells cosmetics for Premium Currency: Cosmetics give players even more options to customize the visual appearance of their characters. Nothing offered in The Shop grants any direct or indirect gaming advantage. So while many of them may look like powerful pieces of gear, they have no in-game state.
  • The shop is optional: Players can experience all main and seasonal game features without spending any money. Our goal is for players to enjoy going to the store, buy something when they feel like it, and leave satisfied with what they bought.
  • The store is transparent: It is important that players know exactly what to expect before making a purchase. We’ve created a preview feature that allows players to closely examine every cosmetic detail on their own characters before deciding to make a purchase.
  • The prettiest cosmetics aren’t exclusive to The Shop: Diablo IV will come with hundreds of unlockable transmogs from in-game drops, including dozens of the highest visual quality armor sets. There are amazing pieces – unique and legendary quality items – that players can find without ever going to the store. The Shop offers more variety of choices, not always better choices. (Editor’s Note: while we’ll have to wait and see, cosmetics are subjective, so you might end up thinking the best ones require you to spend some money)
  • Armor transmogrifications in the shop can be used on all characters of that class: Many of the cosmetics in the shop are class-specific phantasms, which wouldn’t necessarily make sense visually on other classes. Once you’ve unlocked a cosmetic from the shop for a given class, you can use it on every character of that class on your account. There are special Season Pass-exclusive cosmetics that celebrate the theme of the season and look the same across all classes.

“The most important guiding principle behind The Shop and Season Pass is to create something that players love, look forward to, and enjoy being part of the game,” the blog post reads. “Cosmetics in Diablo IV create new ways for players to express themselves and never provide in-game benefits. Players will experience all the fun of the season whether they spend anything or not. We have intend to continue our dialogue with players about the store and the season. Drop by, and we will always listen and seek community feedback on this. We sincerely believe that we can work with the community to make Diablo IV a living and evolving world for many years to come.

And that concludes this quarterly Diablo IV update.
