IUST organizes a special conference on the development of interactive content in digital journalism

Awantipora October 11: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) held a special conference on Monday titled “Developing Interactive Content in Digital Journalism”. The event was held in association with NEWSWRITERS.IN – a national level online platform for the promotion of critical thinking on contemporary issues related to media and communication, particularly in the wake of the digital revolution .

The keynote speaker of the event was Mr. Anjan Chakraborthy, a digital media consultant and trainer for new media newsrooms with over 19 years of journalistic experience with organizations like Reuters, The Statesman, ABP, Hindustan Times , etc. and is currently the CEO of Estory Infocom – a Kolkata-based cybersecurity consulting firm.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Monisa Qadiri, Senior Assistant Professor and Department Coordinator for Industry Connect, DJMC and moderated by Dr. Arif Nadaf, DJMC faculty member.

The journalist-turned-entrepreneur, while addressing the students, shared tips on developing interactive content for greater user engagement and said that in today’s world, interactive content is the thorn backbone of all modern journalism where the future of journalism lies.

He highlighted the need for interactive content in different formats, including images and videos, and spoke of the need to diversify the ways in which users can interact with information. He also highlighted the need for journalists to equip themselves with digital media skills to stay relevant in times of interactive content, while sharing practical tips with students.

The conference ended with a question and answer session followed by closing remarks by Dr. Monisa Qadiri. Also present during the session were Dr. Heeba Din, DJMC Faculty Member and Mr. Zahoor Gilkar, DJMC Staff Member and PR Center and Mr. Sarfaraz Ahmad, IT Department.
