Latest CareerBuilder Survey Reveals 52% of Employed Adults Are Satisfied With Their Role

New data highlights the incentives that contribute to employee retention, including flexible hours and wellness benefits.

CHICAGO, September 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — CareerBuilder, a global leader in talent acquisition and job market, has released results from its latest Harris Poll finding that the majority of employed adults (52%) are satisfied with their role and are not currently engaged in a job search while 23% of Gen Z, 24% of Gen Y and 14% of Gen X among those who are actively looking for a new job. As part of the survey, employees also shared the incentives they value the most that keep them engaged and loyal to their organization.

On average, the data shows that a quarter of employed adults have been with their company for three to five years, with around one in 10 employees (9%) having been with their current company for less than a year, 22% in his company for one to two years and 20% for six to ten years.

“With these new survey results, we find that one in five employees have been with their company for six to 10 years, indicating that workers value loyalty and a healthy work culture,” said Kristin Kelley, Marketing Director at CareerBuilder. “As employers, we strive to keep our teams motivated and happy. This new data helps inform and open up the lines of communication, so employers can meet people where they are, providing the ideal environment that allows everyone to prioritize well-being, flexibility and work-life balance.”

Among employed adults, 56% say the work schedule attracts them most to their current role and is particularly important for women (61%) compared to men (51%). Nearly half of workers surveyed say co-workers (48%), fair pay (46%) and work-life balance (43%) are most appealing, with 34% also liking their health benefits. In fact, 58% of Gen Zers are attracted to their work because of colleagues and friends at work, while men (52%) are more likely than women (39%) to be attracted to their work because they are paid fairly.

The survey also revealed the perks employees are looking for outside of common work perks and their company’s current offerings:

  • 30% want a four-day work week
  • 28% hope to celebrate their birthday
  • 24% seek mental health and wellness benefits
  • 21% prefer to work remotely full-time
  • 16% would like a paid sabbatical
  • 13% would be interested in pet insurance
  • 10% are looking for fertility or new baby benefits

Notably, benefits related to their working hours replace financial offers for employees, including a signing bonus (28%), student loan repayment (20%), a childcare allowance or childcare (19%) and tuition reimbursement (15%).
