Masterminds discuss a dangerous 270% increase in AI content

London, UK, Nov. 16, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Data from The Brains Digital Marketing has revealed that demand and interest in AI content has increased dramatically in a short time. In fact, the digital marketing agency saw a 270% increase in searches related to AI content from February to August 2022. It’s likely that trajectory will only increase over time – but what is does this mean for content, SEO and Google penalties?

A remarkable 82% of marketers apparently say that AI-generated content is as good as human-written content. The many AI tools currently on the market would certainly lead us to believe so, and the appeal to the average business is understandable – writing regular, quality content is time-consuming and demanding, but with AI, businesses can produce huge amounts of content in little to no time. And while marketers themselves claim they can’t see the difference between AI-written content and specialist-written bespoke material, can Google? And is it worth the cost?

The reality is that Google has definitely declared AI-generated content to be against its webmaster guidelines. Such automatically generated content, regardless of the tools used to create it, is considered spam, resulting in a manual penalty. But what are the chances of getting caught? While it may be true that Google is not (yet) sophisticated enough to reliably differentiate between human-written content and AI content, if Google’s Spam Enforcement Team finds it, it is authorized to take action. This could lead to a drop in ranking.

Speaking of content AI, Victoria Smith, SEO Strategist at The Brains, says:

“With the importance of SEO content increasingly recognized and SERPs becoming more competitive than ever, companies are turning to AI content generators to augment their content production. New AI content companies are pushing their products with aggressive marketing campaigns promising SEO-optimized articles that will dominate search rankings. But is this true and what does Google think of it all? In fact, Google itself has stated categorically that any content generated by the AI will be flagged as spam and will result in a manual penalty against any site that publishes it. And Google is pretty good at recognizing this type of content. So for anyone considering using an AI content generation tool, proceed with caution! And expect to do a lot of manual editing to fly under the radar!”
