Digital comedy brand Smosh has tapped Joel Rubin as its senior executive vice president of programming and content.

In his new role, Rubin will report to Smosh CEO Daniel Tibbets and oversee all programming, development and content creation. He joins the comedy channel after more than a decade in digital media, focusing on content and audience development. Previously, he worked as vice president of programming for SpringHill Company and held executive positions at Machinima and Discovery Digital Networks, the comedy channel SourceFed.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joel to Smosh, and as a true industry leader, he will enable us to continue to produce creative content and elevate our comedy to new heights,” said Smosh’s CEO. , Daniel Tibbets. “Joel’s digital media experience will guide strategic programming decisions that will position our brand for its next generation of success.”

Rubin’s hiring was accompanied by two other staff announcements for Smosh, with promotions for Lisa Van Lenner and Kiana Parker.

Parker was promoted from creative producer to director of Smosh Pit. She will create unscripted comedy formats, game shows and challenges in the new role, as well as develop new formats and IP. Previously, Parker worked with Tastemade and did freelance work in production, photography, community management and marketing.

Van Lenner, meanwhile, will assume the role of senior vice president of production and operations at Smosh, after more than two years overseeing the production and post-production of Smosh’s content across its YouTube channels, streaming and social media. Prior to working at Smosh, Van Lenner held production positions at Popsugar, Vice Media, Endemol Beyond USA, the Intellectual Property Corporation, Shine America, Fremantle Media and Lifetime Television.
